euroLED 09 are delighted to welcome a special delegation of UK Trade & Investment attendees to the exhibition on Wednesday 3rd June 2009. This 28 page full colour magazine will be distributed to all Conference and Exhibition delegates at euroLED 2009 and in addition will be circulated widely at national and international events attended by Aston Science Park and Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network, Photonics Cluster (UK) during the coming year.
There will also be a low resolution version visible on the euroLED 09 and media partners' web sites.

Chongqing LED and Photonics Visit to UK a Resounding Success

The leader of the visiting industry group from Chongqing was hugely impressed by the welcome it received from the UK photonics and LED based community.

Over the course of their visit organized by Aston Science Park on behalf of UK Trade & Investment the group travelled widely throughout the UK including Scotland during which time they met with one of the leading UK Science Parks, UK Trade & Investment representatives, two Knowledge Transfer Networks, two Regional Development Agencies, twenty two UK companies and participated in fifty+ meetings

The inward mission was a combination of intensive one to one business meetings coupled with networking and social activities. One such social occasion was a dinner hosted in Birmingham by Aston Science Park Managing Director David Hardman. This took place at the Wing Wah and involved cuisine similar to the Chongqing regional “hot pot” speciality.

Highlights of the week included the Aston Science Park one to one meetings which stimulated excellent interaction with the UK companies attending. Moreover the visit to the Birmingham based McGeoch Technology impressed the delegation. The delegation considered the quality of the McGeoch niche products - especially suited for harsh environments eg oil rigs, mining as well as vibration such as transportation - the basis for future collaborations.

The Northwest Region activities provided introductions to Leyland Trucks and Zetex alongside impressive presentations on the capabilities within this Region.

The Scottish activities were well supported with the science dignitary Dr David Simpson OBE providing a technical address on the Freelight dye doped polymer technology which was developed at Napier with applications in displays, road signs etc. Other companies attending included Gas Sensing Solutions, Design LED Products, OptoCAP Limited, Quantum Filament Technologies Ltd, Fibre Photonics, and Intense.

Aston Science Park tenant FCL Computing & Software Solutions Limited, an established IT consultancy business has been awarded the prestigious Accredit UK Standard, which recognises the best technology suppliers in the country.

FCL Computing & Software Solutions Ltd has a team of nine experienced consultants and engineers and can also call upon a pool of up to 55 consultants for any substantial project. The company is planning to use the Accredit UK standard to help grow their business. By completing the Accredit UK standard, they have been recognised as providing an efficient, honest and reliable service.

The Accredit UK standard is an independent quality mark that promotes trust in IT and helps suppliers prove their excellence.
