ACTAtek

ACTAtek is based in West Heath, Birmingham with offices in Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore.  Established in 2007, the company develops Time Attendance and Access Control Systems that overcome the time-consuming nature of calculating staff work hours and payroll. Unlike traditional clocking systems which are error prone and open to abuse, ACTAtek uses Smart Card and Biometric Fingerprint technology for accurate and secure user authentication.

The company’s ACTAtek system, which can be tailored for small businesses to large enterprises, addresses the vertical markets of Security, Workforce Management and Payroll applications.  At the heart of the solution are the ACTAtek terminals, running the company’s bespoke software. One of the innovative features of the system is that the terminals can be controlled, configured and administered remotely using any web browser over a corporate network or through the internet.  They can also have a built-in CMOS camera to take snapshots of each transaction made by the user to prevent the system being abused.

The company’s clients work in various industries from retail and food and beverages, to construction and Government and include: Muirfield Contracts (Scotland), Dubai International Airport (UAE), Belize Natural Energy and the Government of Macau.

ACTAtek believes its success stems from providing customers with innovative, high-quality and affordable solutions that offer true business benefits.  Its products have been praised by customers and the press alike for ease of use, functionality and value for money. Recently ACTAtek terminals were given the full 5 star rating by SC Magazine, a well respected IT security magazine. The company also won “Security Hot Company 2007" from Info Security Products Guide USA and "2008 Product Innovations" from Network Products Guide USA.

ACTAtek believes the West Midlands area provides an excellent hub to build a technological business. The centralised locality in the UK makes it easier to reach customers and there is a lot of great support on offer from organisations like the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and local universities.  Warwick University's Digital Lab, partially funded by Advantage West Midlands, has been of particular benefit to ACTAtek providing advice on how to incorporate the best business practices with innovative technology.  ACTAtek are involved with the ICT Cluster and were shortlisted in the 2008 ICT Excellence Awards in the Best Added Value Product category.

The company’s plans for the future include integrating its Access Control technology in line with CCTV and IP Camera monitoring.  The ACTAtek ID-Video platform, in conjunction with the terminals, will enable remote web camera monitoring from virtually any location in the World, easy administration and enhanced site security.
