Solihull-based Dynistics is a leading developer of graphical dashboard software. 

Based on the concept of a car dashboard, the software enables data, from almost any application, to be presented graphically to make it easier and quicker to interpret. The tagline for its Active Dashboards product is “Everything you need to know” as it provides a succinct summary of the information that an organisation needs to perform more effectively.

The ActiveDashboards solution is already used by organisations of all sizes from large multi-nationals and SMEs to hospitals and schools. It can connect to a software application, aready in use, to provide new insights from existing information simply by presenting it in a graphical format. Anthony Dent, Managing Director of Dynistics explains: “Accounting data, for example, is much easier to comprehend in the form of a chart than as a spreadsheet.”  Active Dashboards helps customers to spot and act upon issues, trends and opportunities more quickly.  It can also be used for communicating to a broader audience, such as displaying Active Dashboards charts on plasma screens or on Intranet/Website pages.  

Although the software has universal appeal, Dynistics has focused on three key sectors; healthcare, legal and education.  Its customers include over 50 NHS Trusts and Hospitals using Active Dashboards to track critical operational metrics, financial measures and targets.  Across the UK, law firms are using the product to obtain a real-time picture of staff workloads, fee earner revenues and the outcomes of all cases, while schools, colleges and Universities are benefiting from the ability to monitor everything from student admissions to absenteeism and exam results.
 
Dynistics also works extensively with partners in the software industry, many of whom have integrated Active Dashboards with their own software to add an extra dimension to their products.  Pegasus, for example, which produces the Opera II accounting package, is able to better illustrate financial results. A company’s cash flow forecast could be shown as a traffic light – red, amber or green – making it easier to understand by non-accountants, thereby increasing its value to the organisation as a whole.

“Our success is based upon our focused approach to business, applied both to the development of innovative products and to our sales and marketing strategy,” comments Anthony Dent.  “It is gratifying that our success has now started to achieve recognition within the UK and abroad.  Last year we established a global distribution arrangement for our software and received three software innovation industry awards – so we must be doing something right!”

Dynistics’ decision to be based in the West Midlands was driven primarily by the availability of talented individuals.  “The rich source of graduate talent being produced by the region’s universities and colleges means we have been able to continue to recruit good quality staff and achieve uninterrupted growth,” enthuses Dent  

The company has benefitted from a number of programmes operated by Advantage West Midlands and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), which has enabled it to utilise external expertise when and where needed.  Dent says: “Through the ICT Cluster, we have established relationships with other software companies that have enabled us to access new customers and markets that we would not have considered on our own,”  

In 2009, the Chamber of Commerce in Birmingham provided Dynistics with access to the resources and individuals it needed to help with its rapid international expansion.
Looking to the future, Dynistics has just launched a fourth generation Active Dashboards Solution, introducing new graphical display capabilities.  The company plans to expand into new market sectors while developing new features for the software, as requested by its user community, at the same time ensuring that it remains true to its founding principles – keeping it simple and straightforward to use.
